Binaural recording is an excellent method of creating a three-dimensional sound image, but in sound image localization, there is a problem: if the head transfer function (HRTF) of the microphone used does not match that of the listener, accurate sound image localization is difficult. This problem is caused by the fact that the recorded sound depends on the HRTF of the dummy head or HATS, and that the listener's own HRTF varies from person to person. In particular, it often affects the perception of forward localization, making it difficult for even those who are accustomed to listening to binaural audio to recognize the front and rear sound image localization.
